Owing to the integrated motion sensors, you don't need to activate the device, it automatically detects when your vehicle moves and starts recording the route immediately. After a few minutes with no movement, the device returns to standby mode, which allows a battery life of up to a year for the typical user. Data recording only takes place locally in the MTRLOG. The data is not automatically sent to a server and it is therefore not possible to follow the route live, protecting your privacy. Using a free app you can upload the data when required via Bluetooth to a central server and edit it to a limited extent, as well as print out data as proof for the local tax authorities.
